Ascitic tapping is done on OPD basis to remove fluid from the abdominal cavity. After giving local anesthesia there is a small needle which is used to drain fluid from the lower part of abdomen. Ultrasound guidance is also used to do these procedures if fluid in the abdomen is less in quantity.

Why Ascitic tapping it done ?

This is done to make a diagnosis from the fluid collected to look for diseases like chronic liver disease, Abdominal tuberculosis, cancer etc and therapeutic use for patients with liver disease and cancers.
